Legends

The wishing bell

Legend has it that a long time ago a young widow lived right here on the island in the lake. Her husband was killed by some brigantes who threw his body in the lake. The woman collected all her gold and silver and had a bell built, which they had to install in the chapel on the island. Unfortunately, a very strong storm caused the boat in which they were carrying the bell to sink and it was lost in the waters of the lake.

The inhabitants of Bled say that today, whoever crosses the lake on the clearest nights can hear the bell ringing from the depths. But how did the story of the woman from Bled end? Well, after having lost the bell, she decided to donate all her assets to the church for the construction of another church on the island and she went to a convent. Later, his father had another bell built that arrived without any problem on the island.

Legend has it that if you ring this bell – known as the wishing bell – after making an important wish, it will come true.

Every year, on Christmas Day, a luminous bell, made with LEDs by Bled wine producers, is symbolically installed on the surface of the lake, to revive this ancient legend.

Ziva, the goddess of love and fertility

Legend has it that on this islet the inhabitants worshiped Ziva, goddess of love and fertility, later it became a place of pilgrimage, until at the beginning of the 20th century it was chosen by the aristocracy as a destination for well-being and relaxation, becoming a spa city, it is not surprising since it is in one of the most beautiful places in the country.
